Today on Episode 4 we talked about Glue

Archeologists have discovered glue made from tree sap was used as far back at 4000BC to repair clay pots. We also know that ancient greeks developed adhesives from eggs whites, blood, bones, milk, cheese, vegetables and grains. The ancient romes used tar and beeswax for glue.

Today its a little easier, you just have to buy the right glue to hold the right product. Today I'm gonna share my favorite glues, some facts on glue and also give you a little tip to figure it all out. So thank you for joining us today.

My old time favorite glue was Velverette, it was thick, white, dried clear and worked on just about everything. Unfortunately its not around anymore. But now I have Aleene’s Glues.

Aleene Jackson always wanted to be a florist and from that she created Aleene’s tacky glue that wouldn’t soak through silk. Most crafters still use it today though its now distributed through Duncan. . A brief history of Aleene. http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/biographies/67181/1

  1. Aleene’s Tackit Over and Over - a great glue for appliqués that are not washable. You put the glue on the back of the item and let it dry. Then you can put it on different clothing as you wish. Its great for scout patches that have to move with the child to different uniforms.

  2. For a permanent fabric hold i love Fabri-Tac from BEACON its a crystal clear adhesive. It's formulated for fast grab, fast dry and flexibility. It won't stain or soak into fabrics. It's great for leather, wood and lace.

  3. For paper like scrapbooking i use glue dots, glue sticks or double stick tape that needs to be archive safe which usually will say acid free. This means it wont turn yellow with age.

  4. My last favorite glue is Bond 527 which I use for jewelry glass, china and metal.

Now you ask what’s the best way to pick a glue. You can go to the craft store and read the bottles or you can go to  www.thistothat.com

You are able to choose the 2 items you are glueing together and they will give you a couple of options. The site even has "glue in the news" articles that can sometimes be very funny as well as glue trivia.
